We are going to Malaysia!

Thanks to CQUniversity, I have been incredibly lucky to be one of three selected students to go Malaysia, to document the experience through Social media, blog posts, photography and video.

I will be joining 30 students and staff members on an inter-cultural exchange between CQUniversity and the Bentley Music Academy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in January 2018.

The reason behind this amazing opportunity is the M1K-A-D-O and through that, creating a intercultural overseas exchange experience for the students.  It will enable the students to have an opportunity to learn about another culture, learn a new language, customs, to collaborate with each other and learn new skills while being there to perform the M1K-A-D-O with the Malaysian students.  There will be about 90 performing together which includes the orchestra, conductor, onstage Australian and Malaysian students.

M1K-A-D-O is a contemporary interpreted version of Gilbert and Sullivans classic comedy stage production of ‘The Mikado’, which was written over 100 years ago.  Produced and re-created with a creative twist, incorporating fantasy, cosplay, avatars and video game impressions.

Previous M1K-A-D-O production rehearsals by CQUniversity students in August 2017 at CQCM Theatre.  Lead vocalists from left – Sophie Power (Pee T-Zing), Lauren Nolly (Yumy Um) and Brook Conklin (Pee B-O).  CQUniversity (2017)

Directing the M1K-A-D-O is Mr Peter Cousens.  Who is renown as an international star, actor, singer, director, mentor of musical theatre, film and television.  As well as Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music’s (CQCM) Artistic Ambassador.

This production has been collaborated between the management team being Mr Kevin Field, Tour Manager Nicole Thomson and Professor Judith Brown, together with the CQuniversity students with Kuala Lumpur Music and Theatre students.  With the students performing as an onstage cast member or playing an instrument in the orchestra at the Bentley Music Academy, in Petaling Jaya, Selango, Malaysia.

I personally can not wait for this amazing opportunity and to watch the production as I have not seen this contemporary version before.
