In January 2018, I am thrilled and honoured to be participating in an inter-cultural exchange opportunity in Malaysia with CQUniversity and Bentley Music Academy. Contributing to the documentation of a contemporary version of the stage production of ‘The M1K-A-D-O’.
Which includes involvement from 27 students studying a Bachelor of Theatre from Mackay, Tour Co-ordinator Nicole Thomson and Director Peter Cousens. A collaborated performance between CQUniversity and Bentley Music Academy.
From growing up on stage participating in various musicals, stage productions, dancing concerts or singing in school choirs in the eisteddfod. As well as, over a decade of working in the film and television industry, on set working in the production department for television commercials and series, feature films or in busy Queensland broadcast newsrooms as a professional camera operator and editor. Most recently taking up study with CQUniversity to upgrade my skills further completing a Bachelor of Professional Communication.
It has been one of the best decisions I have made to attend CQUniversity. For reasons including the way the course is structured online for distance students, the unit content, the lecturers expertise, the student engagement and leadership opportunities, and global exchange experiences.
With only weeks until our departure and lots of discussions, emails and blog posts from my end, it is starting to feel real. I actually can not believe I am traveling overseas with uni and apart of this amazing opportunity. I am starting to feel nervous and excited but needing to calm myself to remain focused and professional on what I need to do, which is documenting the experience with our team.
In the next few days, I will be putting together a proposal plan of how I would like to present the documentation and then will forward that onto the team. The proposal will include covering all aspects of social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) which could link directly to and from a website and blog site. As well as profiles on lead actors and key crew, documentary video piece with vision and interviews with a few of the 40+ cast, short behind the scenes videos, a promotional video and photography. A lot of work there to be done in a short amount of time, however, between the three of us we could do it with good planning.
As well I will research more about Malaysia, Bentley Academy of Music, pack my bag, get my camera gear ready, charge the batteries, clear memory cards and hard drives, and will add a couple more blog posts before we depart.
Lots to be done and organised. So excited can not wait.
